So! i said i would make a seperate Wip for Raven and here it is!

the one marked as OLD is the one that appeared on the other wip. the rest of these is new.

Changes:
New Skin Texture. i made it a BIT purple on PURPOSE, to give her a bit more of an otherworldly vibe.

I gave her a face a BIT of a change; but tomorrow i'll prolly sitdown rebuild her face from SCRATCH, so i don't keep getting the same face issue. ALSO, i gave her Slitted Eyes, because i thought they looked cool. i mean, she IS a half demon, so it kinda fits.

Better Fitted the Corset and Skirt Belt to the hips, as well as making the shoe soles a bit smaller. i ALSO fixed the Hood tails to better intregate it with the Dress.

Bodysuit:

i TRIED a bodysuit look, and whilst it looks OKAY, its not as good as the Dress. she needs a gold belt in this look, as well.

i also tried a cleavaged look for the Dress, but i like the lines of the dress better without the cleavage.

ALSO! the hair is very much TEMPORARY. i WILL be looking at other options. overall tho, i WILL try to keep a short, sporty look.

ALL OF THEM ARE (C) TO DC!

SO! a couple of notes before you critique!
1) since these are wips and i am posting them STRICTLY for the purpose of critique, i WILL hide any comment that is just 'nice job!' or 'that loooks great!'. no arguments, cus i'm posting these to GET critique, as opposed to my normal art.

2) if you think you can't comment cus you don't know 3D, just treat them as if i drew them, and ignore the fact that their 3D. if something can't be done cus its 3D, well, thats MY problem, not yours.

3) feel free to be as vicious as you need to be! i'd rather have brutal honesty then kind lies!

4) also, in case its not obvious, i'm looking for crits on the COSTUME, and the BODY. the face WILL change, so i'll prolly ignore crits there, at least until i start working on it.

oh yeah, PLEASE don't submit this to groups! its a WIP!

I like the non-cleavage look better, and the dress with the skirt will be more fun to pose along with the cape to give her that ethereal flowing/fluttering look that I most remember. Somehow I always envision her with more grey skin, but the light violet looks good.

Oooh! Lots of Ravens! Yeah, the innovation of the eye thing is pretty cool--the original version always made a big deal of her eyes appearing out of the ever-present darkness of her hood. Doing stuff to make her seem subtly off from normal isn't a bad thing at all. Usually she has had longer hair, but I did like her short hair when she was resurrected by Johns. I'm also partial to the "A-line" hair cut she had in the cartoon. Something that plays around with short and medium length hair might be interesting. Anyway, wearing long hair with a hood always seemed strange to me.

I like the newer design the best. I'm not quite sure that the neck thing is good or not, and the gold medallion looks rather clunky. I definitely think that her chakra stone ought to be oval or diamond in shape, it probably should be higher set as well. I'm tempted to suggest the use of a page-boy hair cut as bangs are often used as a visual short-hand for an "evil" character. But it also is used for "innocence" as well. It would be hard to do without hiding the chakra stone, unless it was particularly low set.

While I'm not really a big fan of the aquiline-faced Raven of old, maybe she should have a slightly narrower jaw-line and "pointier" features? Maybe the chakra-stone might be restyled to be vaguely like a somewhat sharp beak? The oval upper part being on her forhead--but the sharper lower part extending down to her nasal bridge? Could look cool--might also look terrible!

What a great site to come home to after being away for a few days!
She's looking damn good and the slit eyes totally work for her. I'd suggest taking the jewel on her head and making that a vertical slit as well, maybe inch it up a bit.
I'm liking the black and blue combo as well, nice deep shade of blue there.

Have you thought about increasing the shadow over her eyes, since in both the comic and the cartoon the hood gives a rather unnatural shadow over half her face.

The cleavage is interesting. I'm not used to seeing her show it off, but I certainly don't mind it, the points you gave her top fit in well with her look. As for the loin cloth, it works way better than the body suit.

Also, out of curiosity, what do you think of the Teen Titans cartoon design of Raven?

yeah, i prolly WILL change the head jewel, as this is just a placeholder. i plan to do the shadow in photoshop, as i'm not sure to how increase shadows on a specific area in my 3d program.

and yeah, i've seen the Teen Titans cartoon. while i thought it was fun stories and a good retelling of the titan's mythos, my major issue with it was the frankly, very BORING costume designs. i mean, go look at the new Young Justice designs, and then at the Teen Titans, and you'll see what i mean. they over simplified it.

and yeah, when i saw the cartoon i thought Raven was a fun character, but dressed in a VERY boring costume. (sadly, i always look at things from an artist viewpoint FIRST, which means that i sometimes dislike good shows/comic books/etc for the lack of good art)

True, they did streamline everyone's look... but that did help for Slade. His mainstream costume is such a mess.

At first I was a little saddened to see the 20-something Raven as opposed to the 18, but I quickly realized you've got the older Starfire as well, so you're certainly well set in the current continuity and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm happy to see more Raven!

Also, if there's any DC gals you would like to see me draw lemme know, I've got time and the near constant need to draw!

and yeah, i agree with the streamlined Slade. i just kinda think that in the other character's cases they kinda got TOO streamlined. and yeah, my girls are around 18 to 20, mostly. i will try to make her a look a bit younger when i get to her face again (other thing's keep poping up >.<)

and i honestly dunno what to ask you draw, DC wise. if i had my druthers, i'd like to see my OC Orbital Girl, ([link]) but i realize she isn't a DC girl /_\

Of course they could fix the detail problem just by going into CGI. I honestly think, knowing what all they need to do for a JLA movie they need to go with CGI instead of live action. I'd say something akin to the Ninja Turtle movie, where it sits in a stylized world, but that's just me.

As for brushing off a few years, I'd say you could also take a little off her height, but I don't know how easy that is.

And for Orbital, what sort of personality does she have?

yeah, i kinda wish they would go into CGI (theirs a CGI teen titan's Fan movie out there in the web that has some pretty interesting designs, but the link escapes me)

as for Orbital Girl, she's the Straight man to Blond Bomb's ditzy Funny Girl act. i really need to get around to doing a Promo Pinup, but honestly i'm so bogged down. if you just wanna do a Quicky DC girl, i'd pick Zatanna (since i don't recall seeing her from you)

anyway, i'm glad your happy so far with Raven, and i hope i do her justice (once i get back around to her, i'll do a proper test render, and note you for critique and suggestions)

Would it be alright if I were to draw Orbital with one of my gals?
