so, i've been reworking my Batfamily girls so i can do a big Batfamily pic like this
minus Flamebird and Batgirl III of course, as i don't have either of those girls.

SO! my major issues with Batwoman, as can be seen from Pic 1, which was her default look as of this pic
was thusly:

1) her body was FAR too over the top/thick/muscley.
2) her costume was boring.
3) her boots and gloves, while unique looking, left somewhat to be desired.

Pics 2 and 3, i toned down her body by a LOT. i also borrowed the texture i made for my Batgirl II and modified it bit. i also changed out the boots and the gloves, as well as giving her some minor makeup changes. but i still have SOME issues to contend with.

1) her hair STILL sucks >.<
2) her gloves/boots have lost of their uniqueness.
3) i'm affraid her body might be too similar to Huntress/WonderWoman/Powergirl now.

Anyway, i'm throwing these up to hear your thoughts on what to do with everyone's favorite lesbian Vigilante!

SO! a couple of notes before you critique!
1) since these are wips and i am posting them STRICTLY for the purpose of critique, i WILL hide any comment that is just 'nice job!' or 'that loooks great!'. no arguments, cus i'm posting these to GET critique, as opposed to my normal art.

2) if you think you can't comment cus you don't know 3D, just treat them as if i drew them, and ignore the fact that their 3D. if something can't be done cus its 3D, well, thats MY problem, not yours.

3) feel free to be as vicious as you need to be! i'd rather have brutal honesty then kind lies!

oh yeah, PLEASE don't submit this to groups! its a WIP!

AND! Batwoman is (C) to DC!

Hmmm, my thoughts are pretty similar to the above, SpecialAgentButler's... and yet, I will post them anyway.

I think you are on the right path with the boots. The V cut in front gives them a good Bat-look. If you're concerned that they are losing their uniqueness, maybe you should try giving them some ribbed areas, like the wrist section of the gloves. The gloves could use ribbing on the palms, I notice that on some Batwoman drawings in the comics and I always think it looks cool. And yes, the Batwings on the gloves would be a great addition.

I see that you seem to favor the canister Bat utility belt, but you should try giving Batwomn the boxy pouch utility belt. And if they are attached only at the top they can fly up when she jumps down to further sell the action.

Yes, her hair... My take on the flaming red wig is that she uses it to draw attention away from her exposed lower face, kinda like Frank Miller has Bruce Wayne apply a fake scar in Year One to draw bystanders' attention where he wants it. That said, it should have more volume. More like your Starfire hair, if only that could sweep back and not (always) have the long strand/bang across the front. But a sometimes strand across the front would be a great look.

You keep the eye holes open on her mask, and of course you are doing your take, the one that appeals to you, and I think you like to see the eyes because it goes with the whole babydoll aspect of your characters, but I rally think Batwoman's mask calls for lenses. But I think you can have it all, if you give the lens/eyehole an appealing shape. As drawn, Batwoman's mask generally has a sunken, skull-like shape to the eye area, and I don't know if that is really right for your look, but maybe some ridge or accent would give her a scarier or sterner vibe, coupled with a cute but tough eyehole shape (like the Avatar Navi eyes? Basically Disney big eye but slanted and almonded like a cartoon cat) and an opaque white lens. Cold be good.

As far as the anatomy goes... Well, in this instance I like that you have the separated breasts. It's working for me. I mentioned in a different comment our shared love of the Frazetta/Cho solid bottom, and she is ex-Marines and all, but in 3 the thighs are looking just too heavy. She really is fast on her feet and wants to look like she could leap around and flip her body with lightness and grace. The tops of the thigh into the glutes could staybig, but the bottom of the thigh into the knees (the quads?) are what start to give her that bodybuilder look you aren't really going for. Maybe if you scaled her legs long it would help both make her mmore lean-looking and start to differentiate her silhouette from some of your other characters where you are worried about it.

Giving it one quick last look, I think the mask gear should cover the ears. She is a hand to hand fighter and the ears exposed would give her opponents a big window of opportunity.

I have high hopes for your Batwoman character. Really looking forward to seeing how it shapes up.

Hey PC! The thing that made me REALLY dig Batwoman was the way that J.H. Williams draws her. He always has her hair looking "wind-blown" w/ little wispy pieces hanging over the mask...[link] The body in the 3rd WIP pic looks PERFECT. As for the gloves...I dig them...maybe add the 3 "old-school" forearm spikes to the gloves. Oh yeah...I need some pouches on her utility belt. Whadaya think???

yeah, i really liked the J.H.Williams look, especially his color choices. and yeah, i'm going to TRY some new hairs, as that seems to be one of the more consistent crits. and yeah, gloves and utility belt is on my list.

thanks for the comments!

My only real problem has been addressed, but if you're going for comic book accurate her boobs really are too big. This is a more gymnast like character as opposed to Wonder Woman or Power Girl who can just punch their way through a problem.

Also, maybe some texture on the boot soles? Something to break up that big flat area.

a lot of my thought have already been voiced by others, so I'll reiterate switching the hair with Huntress (who I made a bunch of comments about not realizing you already had a final) and a new belt, and add that perhaps her gloves should have an arrow cut from the top (like her boots) to break up the flat line? it would call on the arrows parts on her fists, and add some feeling of motion

i like the arrow glove idea, actually. i might either try that or a slanting line, but you are right, the straight line does break up the flow.
thanks for the idea!

#2 has the best body proportions. The glove texture on #2 rocks. I agree that she should have curly hair.
Question: Where did you get the mask.

i made the mask in maya, which is a 3d creation program. it needs to be updated, both in shape and in its inner workings, but its good enough for now.

I really like the style of your renders. What shaders & lighting do you use for the body they are so clean and crisp. I assume you render in poser, if so which version?
