Howdy again! i am still mired in the depths of school work, so i figured that now is a great time to show some wips!
These here were my first attempts at creating casual looks for my Gotham Girls. The costume versions besides them are meant for comparison/information ONLY. I'm looking for crits only on the CASUAL looks!
So now, onto the girls!
From Left to Right!
Babs: For Babs, i tried REAL hard to get close to a college girl look (which you would THINK would be easy considering i go to college and all, but nooooo). My issue here, is the belly shirt is a bit toooo outthere for Babs, as i think it shows far too much skin for a supposed casual look. However, i like the shoes and pants, so the only real issue is finding a new shirt, which as you'll soon discover, is a lot harder than it soundsssss.
Cass: Cass was real hard to peg down, as she's never had a definite casual look in the comics, so coming UP with one was bloody difficult to say the least. Howver, i'm fairly happy with how this came out, but i have the same problem here as i have with Babs, and that is that i dont care for the shirt at ALL.
Dinah: For Di, i really struggled to find a niche to put her into, in my DC Universe; Eventually, the only thing i came up with was Bartender, so as i made her Casual look thats what i went by. Now i KNOW some won't like her look, but hell, aside from Florist, what does Dinah DO aside from the fishnets business? so i had to compromise between her Canon(or well, old canon, as i dont give a shit about the reboot) and what i was trying to go for in MY universe. As for the outfit, i'm happy here with everything BUt, you guessed it, the Shirt. i think its too, well, slutty ^^'. Also i was trying to keep the same boots and coat as she costumed look, so it made it seem like all she did was don the wig and fishnets and she was ready to bust some heads.
Kate: For kate, i was actually pretty happy with what i managed to come up with. i was trying for a balance between the Rockabilly look she sported in Eulogy, as well as the more classy look as sported in 52, and i think i managed to meld the two pretty well. Also, this one of the few where i'm pretty happy with the shirts. i mean, how ELSE do you manage to hide all that muscle definition? by DISTRACTION, ergo, TITS! and yeah she's wearing heels, even tho she's about 6 feet without them.
Selina: Ah Selina, you little minx, you. Selina's was another where i struggled between the canon look and what i was trying to accomplish, so she looks a bit like a cross between a dominatrix and a biker. and honestly, i'm not TOO fussed by that, tho i'm sure some folks will be.
ANYWAY! In this series i also plan to do casual looks for Stephanie Brown, Helena Bertinelli, and Zatana, but since most of wut i've done for them SUCKS, i decided not to show them at this time.
Also, YES, almost ALL of these girls/women are wearing really tight pants. why? well, its a twofold reason. the First and easiest to explain, is i LIKE girls in tight pants. the Hardest to explain has to deal with the fact that pants that ARENT so tight are hard to come by in the 3D world.
Also, 9 out of 10 imaginary doctors say that High Heels are good for women! so any complaints about THOSE will be ignored ^_^
Some Notes!
A couple of rules before you critique!
1) since these are WIPS, and i'm posting them STRICTLY for the purpose of critique, i WILL hide any and all comments that are non-critical. No arguments, since the SOLE PURPOSE of these WIPs is to collect critique.
2) If you think that you cannot comment before you don't know 3D, then just treat as if i drew them, and ignore the fact that their 3D. If something cannot be done because its 3D, well, thats MY problem, isn't it?
3)Feel free to be as vicious as you need to be! I'd rather have brutal honesty then kind lies!
4)Please don't submit this to Groups! Its a WORK IN PROGRESS. I will DENY any group submissions for WIPS!
ALL CHARACTERS ARE (C) TO DC!
Barbara's undershirt should cover her belly button (nobody wears belly shirts anymore).
Cass' waistline is too low, but you could give her short running shorts to make up for it.
Dinah's top is _really_ slutty; cover the fishnets with pants and the corset with a white dress shirt (assuming she's serving at a classier bar) - and I would lose the casual choker, it's too similar to her costume.
Kate looks great, though she would A) wear a bra, and B) have at least one more button done if she wanted to look at all professional.
Selina would look nice in a shirt skirt instead of pants, but her top looks pretty good.
Babs: yeah, i know belly shirts are outta fashion lately, but as i've mentioned, finding good in fashion shirts in 3D is really difficult >.<. i'll try out a few more shirts, but unless i can find a good one, i'll stick with this one for now.
Cass: i think her low waistline actually WORKS, with the sporty look i was going for here. and i HAVE seen real low hip hugging sports pants like these around campus, so i'll prolly stick with them. i'll try the short pants idea tho, if only to see her in short-shorts ^_^
Dinah: yeah, the general sentiment is that Dinah's outfit is too out of character, so i'll have to go back to the drawing board with her.
Kate: yeah, i didn't want her to be TOO professional >.>.
<.<
^_^
Selina: actually, the skirt idea isn't a bad one, since i've gotten varied opinions on her overall casual look, so it should combine the classy look she's known for with the more casual/rockabilly look i was going for here. just have to decide between a straight line skirt or a pleated skirt.
anyway, thanks for the input!
Babs = perfection. I think you really nailed her style. At least, her early style. It's very casual and it's certainly playful. From the glasses to the shoes, you completely nailed the look! The jeans are fantastic, the layered top is cute and the shoes are very Babs. Well... early Babs.
Cass - Whoaaaa. Those are some low pants. Since I don't really know too much about the character I can't really comment on it fully. I think you did a really great job trying to make a work out look be more stylish. The shape of the shirt is interesting and the patches on the sweats definitely ups the ante a bit. I also like her hair.
Dinah - I kind of face-palmed over this one. I could never in a million years ever imagine Dinah wearing anything remotely similar to this... especially considering she refused to ever go undercover as a hooker. In her real life, Dinah's much more conservative with her style. She likes jeans and sweaters but does spruce things up with stylish dresses. However, she's also got a very "cowgirl"-like style. She's worn fringed jackets with jeans and cowboy boots. Dinah may have been a florist... but she's also a college-educated woman who is a skilled writer (and even published her own book). So really, her secondary occupation wouldn't be bartender because she's overqualified for that. But you recognize that the shirt is too much.
Kate - She looks really cool. I love this look for her. It's a little more mature than what she's been shown to wear but it definitely SCREAMS "Power Lesbian" (or at least the stereotype we're shown in SATC). The pants are great and I love the top.
Selina - Like Dinah, I'm awfully puzzled by this. Selina is a designer brand fanatic who we know to love Italian designers. In fact, she looks more like Helena Wayne from the TV show "Birds of Prey" rather than Selina Kyle. Selina LOVES trencoats. It is a permanent staple in her closet. She's also a fan of black dresses. The hair also looks a little bit too much like...... 40-year-old mom trying to be stylish by wearing twenty pounds of gel. :S I guess I'm particular about both Canary and Catwoman so you'll have to excuse me. I definitely feel like they're extensions and parts of me so it's weird to see them in things I've never seen them in before.
I'm interested to see what you'll do with the other girls. Helena should be the easiest though given how VERY specific her style is.
Babs: yeah, i tend to ignore her years as a elected official, mainly cus it made no sense >.<. costume wise, i agree with someone who said the shirt might be too low, so i'm prolly gonna work on fixing that. aside from that, yeah i agree, she's pretty much perfect ^.^
Cass: Yeah, she's kinda ill-defined in the comics, so don't worry about knowing too much about her, since she almost exclusively wears her costume. all the time >.<. so i'm just gonna stick with the sporty "Babs bought these clothes and she wears them cus otherwise Bruce would have a conipition," look.
Dinah: yeah the general sentiment is that i dropped the ball here. but while i agree with your assesment, i think that going classy is too...common. slikey EVERY powerful woman in comics wears 'classy' casual wear, and that kinda annoys me, cus it distract from them having a unique personality. i once sat down and read every BOP comic i had at the time, paying attention to the casual wear, and GODS it was so BORING. so i'm going to find another look for her, which is partly what i was going for with the Bartender look. (that, and the fact that in my universe, she's NOT overqualified. i kinda picture her like Silk Spectre II in Watchmen[the comic], being trained all her life to be a superhero, and having no general job skills at all, otherwise.)
Kate: AGREED ^__^
Selina: This was another one where i tried to find a look, and the comics just killed me. i mean, during the Darwin Cooke/Brubraker years she had a very definite look, but that was more for a slenderer body than my Selina has, so i tried to go by wut the body indicated would work, and well, failed. so, i'll have to go back to the drawing board with her, as well.
anyway, thanks for the comments! and yeah, i'll update this when i have more of the other girls to show. tho i see can now that Zatanna will be a bitch to get right >.<
Babs - I love her years as a politician because it showed growth within the character. Not only that but it did make sense in many ways. Babs is undeniably a feminist character with feminist origins so why not have her take on a job that would have been largely male-dominated (and continues to be)?
Dinah - I don't know... there's a VERY clear distinction between all the women's styles in BoP. Zinda is the biker chick who loves leather jackets, Babs is the slightly hapless "college" girl who sticks to jeans and t-shirts, Dinah is the "fun" girl who likes to wear the trendy shirts with mini-skirts or jeans and Helena is the professional who sticks to button-up shirts and tailored suits. Awwwww you're dumbing Dinah down in your universe.
Selina: I say pick up an issue of Runway Magazine (or another similarly-themed fashion magazine) and look up what the Italian designers are doing... that's pretty much what Selina would be wearing.
