Sooo, Powergirl. I did this template to help me both with making my own powergirl pictures, getting an angle on emotion and wutnot, and for the day when i finally get the courage up to buy a commissioned piece of artwork.(one hopes whoever i pick isn't nearly so slow as am i at commissions >_> ) And i figured this is also a good place to go over my inspiriations for my own version of PG. and yes, this is my own, non-mainstream DCU version. i even picked a Universe number following the infinite crisis, earth 29(it remains to be seen how long i can use said number before some burk at DC steals it.)
So, rambling aside, inspiration. One of my bigest inspirations, and the most obvious one, for both the character and personality of PG, is Adam Hughes. I always enjoyed his playful yet still realistically done PG, which was a far sight better than Geoff Johns emo PG. For the costume, my inspiration is mainly a combo of a lot of different PG costumes, with some of the late Mike Turner's JLA run, wut with the seams and the widdddeeee chest hole, and some of Ed Benes ideas as well, and a bit of CallmePo's and Adam Warren's ideas thrown in for good measure. A lot of the other costume ideas, like the seams, and the zippers, and the race queen holes, come from a lot of fanart i've seen over the years.
Anyway, thats where a lot of my inspiration for my PG comes from. I realize that some may not be happy with my version of PG, whether its the back hole or the racer lines or boots or size of her bust. But, well, thats art for you.
Things I've changed bout Pg since the last 2009 PG pic: I shortened the heels on the boots after some feedback, and found i liked them better this way. Also fixed the boot flaps to make them actually flappy looking. I also added some more racing lines, and the back hole, for no other reason than i think its cool. And i added in more Gold accents to offset the blue.
Enjoy, and sorry for the long ass comment.
PS: bout the hair. officially, for me, the wild hair is her default state, and the more ordered hair is for functions or for when i want a change. But i like both, so i'll probably change it up now and again.
PPS: 23 'Technically', means i dont think the long-ass space capsule ride or wutever was five minutes long. i think the space capsule ride for both supes and PG took ages, and their chronological age is nowhere near their biological age. but then again, i AM crazy, so disregard this.
I love your take on PG. I think it's always cool for any artist to find their own 'voice' with any character design. What works with yours is that this version is very much your vision but she's still instantly recognizable as PG to anyone who knows of her. I've drawn PG A LOT (See Gallery) and while my version stays closer to the comic visulization, it's very fun to develop one's own version to share.
The wilder hair style is the perfect choice and fits in better with the attitude your PG displays. Fits the shape of her face better and is much more attractive.
Outfit: The boots are fun and the stilletos seem a bit off for PG. If one can soar above everyone else why would you care for more 'height', eh? Who wouldn't enjoy the wider, M Turner chest hole? The zipper in front is a great idea as well but then why would you need one in the back too? The opening on the outfit's back is a sexy ellement. Not that we'd really ever see it with the cape or the fact that we'd all rather see her front anyway.
thanks for the comments. i always appreciate it when someone takes the time to really comment.
And yeah, i totally agree with you bout finding your voice on a particular character. This is My PG, i feel now.
I agree with you about the Hair, but i also still like the kinda doll-like innocence of the more orderly hair.
Bout the boots: well, i think that my PG, while being very assertive, would still be very selfconscious, both about her height, and her wieght, which is how i rationalize the boots. The Zipper in the back is there cus i felt it needed to be there. not sure how it would work, but i'll work on it some more. and the back opening is there for the shear simple awesomeness of it.
^_^
sorry for the long reply, but i always want to give whats given, and if someone takes the time to really reply, i will do the same. thanks!

I would have to disagree with frelncer on the boots. It isn't so much the idea of looking down on everyone... but these boots go hand in hand with the comic worlds ability to dress their heroines in completely non-functional clothing. Not non-functional... what is the word I am looking for???? Hmmmm... I need sleep it isn't coming to me. Anyway, if heroes lived among us, I doubt that they would wear clothing that they could fall out of during a fight. So, the heels, fall right into place with the rest of her outfit. Plus, I am a heel man.
As for the zippers in the back, I have to agree that those are probably not needed. It would make the costume pretty hard to get into.
As for the image... this is a killer way to to a character study. The Emoticons for her facial expressions is classic!! Great job on this character study!
